Starter's Cap For Youth Triathalon Goes Off Sunday On Long Island

The event sees young people compete by running, swimming, and biking.

STONY BROOK, NY — The largest youth triathalon in the tri-state area, Mini Maniac Youth Triathlon, will kick off at West Meadow Beach in Stony Brook on Sunday.

The not-for-profit Lightning Warriors Youth Triathlon Team, which has hosted the event since 2019, has a mission is to spark young athletes to build strength and confidence that creates strong successful leaders, excelling at all levels of life through the sport of triathlon, according to organizer Noah Lam.

"We train year-round and have kids race locally and at the national level," he said, adding that the organization does not charge the kids for the coaching or the facilities that they use.

The race is a major fundraiser for the team, Lam said.

The series of events kick off at 8:30 a.m.
