State Audit: SBU Paid for Maintenance Services it Never Received

The Village Times Herald reports on a lack of elevator maintenance at Stony Brook University and other state colleges.

According to a report published Thursday in The Village Times Herald, Stony Brook University and other state colleges spent money on elevator maintenance and inspections that never took place.

The report cited a state audit from Comptroller Tom DiNapoli's office that said SBU had awarded a five-year, $14.5 million contract to a company for maintenance and inspection of more than 100 elevators on campus, but the university was unable to provide evidence that the company ever completed the contracted work.

"In general, it is important that these elevators are maintained and we make sure the work to maintain them is done, or else there may be some risks to the public," a DiNapoli spokesman told The Village Times Herald.
