Suspected Case of Pertussis Reported at Gelinas Junior High

The news follows a confirmed case at Setauket Elementary earlier this week.

For the second time this week, school officials have sent out a letter regarding the highly contagious illness pertussis in a Three Village school.

On Tuesday, the district sent out a letter informing parents of a suspected case of pertussis, also known as whooping cough: a student at Gelinas Junior High was given a diagnosis of possible pertussis. A school spokeswoman said Thursday that the student has recovered and has returned to school.

Three cases of pertussis have been confirmed within the 2012-2013 academic year. On Monday, the school district sent out a letter confirming a case at Setauket Elementary. In September, a student at Murphy Junior High was diagnosed with pertussis. In November, a student at Nassakeag Elementary was diagnosed with it.
