Here are the top stories today in Three Village:
- Give Back this Season: Heading into October, we are approaching the holiday season. While gifts are a signature part of the late fall and winter celebrations, so too is the spirit of generosity. Give back to your community by planning a fundraising event to support a local charitable organization. One of the most well regarded right in our backyard is The Guide Dog Foundation in Smithtown. The Guide Dog Foundation trains guide dogs that help the blind travel independently. They also run a service animal program for dogs that help disabled veterans. On its Facebook page, sign ups, community members can sign up to host events that raise awareness and support a very noble cause. Check out the work, mission and inspiration of their work a variety of ways to participate are available. These donation drives have included dog toys, Scout troop sponsorship events and driver assistance have all been calls to action by the organization. Tap into the season of kindness and sign up to help one of these wonderous animals find their purpose guiding a person through life’s journeys. (Guide Dog)
- Real Estate: Everyone heard about the housing boom that made Suffolk County a top destination for homebuyers looking for a more quiet refuge than the hustle and bustle of New York City. Homes have been selling like hotcakes and at top dollar. But what those residents who settled here prior to the pandemic? Listening to the community rumbling, it seems that many established homeowners in Three Village have been asking for recommendations for contractors and home improvement pros. Roofers, kitchen and bathroom renovation experts and the like are at the top of local online boards where questions are routinely posted. Referrals to those who can make a well lived in home spectacular are in high demand. It seems those who found their place are looking to stay a little longer, they just want to do it with a little style. Leave a comment and tell us your inspiration for renovating your home. (D.T.M)
- Take a Walk on the Wild Side: Go a little east and find your way to a garden, a garden full of greenery and possibility. A place full of information on the local ecosystem of plants and flowers. Just a hop, skip and a jump away, the village of Port Jefferson has launched a community garden where neighbors come together to beautify this green space and learn about the needs of our little corner of the earth here in Central Suffolk. Check out the projects and lectures offered here. Take in everything you need to know to make your own landscaping thrive or to combat invasive species posing a threat to the delicate balance of our natural world. Right in the heart of the village, consider signing up to plant, clean up and beautify the area. Three Village and its environs are scenic and is nestled among so many picturesque communities here on the North Shore. Step out and stop by to explore and contribute to making the greater area beautiful and represented of the kind of neighbors we are. (Property Shark)
