Visas Of 11 Stony Brook University Students Reinstated: Officials
The students were among 1,500 international students nationwide to have their status terminated, provost says.
LONG ISLAND, NY — All 11 Stony Brook University students whose immigration status was terminated by the federal government several weeks ago have had their status reinstated, the university's executive vice president and provost, Carl Lejuez, announced in a letter to the community on Monday.
The university's Office of Global Affairs team has been in contact with the affected students, and the change means on-campus employment can be restored, allowing the students to return their full attention to their academic pursuits, according to Lejuez.
Over the past weeks, the university "moved quickly" to support its students, who were among 1,500 international students nationwide to have their status terminated, he said.

"We are thankful for the outpouring of support from so many in our university community," he continued. "As we stated in a previous message, Stony Brook is deeply enriched by the perspectives and contributions of our global community, and we are proud to learn, teach, and conduct research alongside our exceptional international students and scholars."
"We also recognize many at the university continue to be concerned about other impacts to higher education," he said. "We are confident that as we face new challenges, our Stony Brook community will come together to support each other and ensure we can remain focused on our mission as New York’s leading flagship."

The 11 students had their visas revoked between March 28 and April 10, university officials previously told Patch.
They were part of a group of 21 students across State University of New York campuses.
News of the revoked visas comes as the administration of President Donald Trump's administration launched a crackdown on students from other countries.
Other universities that have been affected include the City University of New York and Fordham University, according to reports.
The university will continue to add to its Immigration Policy Updates page, according to Lejuez.
