Ward Melville Sports Teams Power Through the Playoffs

The Patriots' baseball team won its first-ever county championship this week, while the girls' lacrosse team challenged Bay Shore for the Suffolk County title and the boys' lacrosse team captured its 16th Long Island championship.

Local Resident Plans Recipe Book Based on Beloved Farm Stand

A local resident and frequent customer at Ann Marie's Farm Stand in Setauket is putting together a recipe collection to celebrate the much-loved farm stand. Until June 7, Terry Dybvig is accepting recipe submissions from community members to include in the book, which is centered around the produce that you can purchase at Ann Marie's Farm Stand. She said the idea is "to get people to appreciate what Ann Marie’s has."

Voter Turnout Low in School Budget Vote

Last Tuesday, voters in Three Village approved the 2013-14 school budget, a decision that directly affects the education of the community's children and the tax bills of thousands of homeowners and hundreds of businesses across town. But with such an important decision on the line, why did just 14.7 percent of the community turn out to vote?

Science Olympiad Teams Earn Top 10 National Rankings

Ward Melville's Science Olympiad team finished the national tournament ranked No. 5 in the nation, while Gelinas's team finished at No. 8, the school district announced Tuesday. Ward Melville students came home with two silver medals, one bronze medal, one fourth-place medal and three fifth-place medals. 

Stony Brook Docs Reattach Man's Hands After Accident

A Staten Island man did his best Wednesday to give a thumbs up to Stony Brook University Hospital doctors who reattached both his hands after an industrial accident. Kenneth Klapak, 53, is a sheet metal worker who had both his hands nearly severed off in an accident on May 16 while working for Anron in North Babylon.
