3 Grizzly Bears Arrive At Central Park Zoo After Years In The Bronx
The three bears, all orphaned as cubs in Montana, are exploring their new home in Central Park after spending nine years at the Bronx Zoo.
UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — If the sea lions, snow leopards and red pandas weren't enough, the Central Park Zoo has a new animal attraction: three grizzly bears.
The furry trio, all females, were moved to the Manhattan wildlife center earlier this month after spending nine years at the Bronx Zoo. They are now officially on view, having "quickly acclimated to their new home" — and can be seen climbing on rocks, digging in the dirt, and wading in the pools and stream in their enclosure, according to the Wildlife Conservation Society, which manages the zoo.
Two of the bears, Amber and Luna, are siblings, while Treena, the third, is unrelated. All three were orphaned as cubs in Montana — the sisters' mother was illegally shot, while Treena's mother was euthanized by the state after repeatedly foraging for food in residential areas, according to WCS.

Unable to survive on their own, the cubs were rescued and brought to the Bronx in 2013, where they were cared for.

"The bears have settled in and are wonderful additions to the Central Park Zoo," said Craig Piper, director of WCS City Zoos, in a news release. "They are enjoying the varied terrain and water features in the exhibit, and they have arguably one of the best views of the Manhattan skyline."
