92nd Street Y Plans $180M Renovation, Reports Say

The Upper East Side cultural institution recently concluded the biggest fundraising campaign in its history.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — An Upper East Side cultural institution is gearing up for a massive renovation after concluding the most successful fundraising campaign in its history, according to reports.

The 92nd Street Y will conduct acomplete renovation of its headquarters — a two-building facility located on Lexington Avenue between East 91st and 92nd streets— in the coming years, the Wall Street Journal first reported. The project is expected to cost $180 million, according to the report.

The renovation will yield improved spaces for the 92nd Street Y's programs as well as added program space, the Journal reported. The 92nd Street Y will not be expanding, but instead will get rid of some existing dormitory spaces to make room for the new program space, according to the report.

Coming off the heels of a massive fundraising campaign, the 92nd Street Y has already raised $145 million for the project, the Journal reported. The campaign was the cultural institution's most successful in its 144-year history.
