Arrest Made In Yorkville Officer Attack: NYPD

A motorcyclist who police say attacked an off-duty police officer walking his dog in Yorkville last week was arrested and charged on Friday.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Police said they arrested a man in connection to an attack on an off-duty NYPD officer in Yorkville that left the cop with a broken ankle.

Bronx resident Sherred Johnson, 31, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor and felony assault on Friday, according to police and the New York Daily News.

The off-duty officer, 52, broke his ankle in the struggle with the violent biker near East 90th Street and First Avenue on Tuesday about 7 p.m., police officials said.

The enraged motorcyclist repeatedly punched the cop to the ground then fled east on East 90th Street, according to the New York Daily News, who reviewed the official complaint.

The officer, who also suffered cuts to his face, was rushed to Weill Cornell Medical Center in stable condition, according to police officials.

Johnson was released after prosecutors had requested bail of $20,000 cash or bond, according to the Daily News. The News also reported that Johnson had one prior arrest in 2019 for harassment and criminal mischief.
