Art Gallery To Open In Former UES Wildenstein Mansion: Report
The East 64th Street mansion sold for $90 million in 2018.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — An Upper East Side mansion that was once owned by the wealthy Wildenstein family will house a new art gallery, according to reports.
Skarstedt Gallery, which currently has locations on the Upper East Side and in London, will open its newest space in the former Wildenstein mansion on East 64th Street in March, industry publication ArtNews first reported.
The gallery will occupy 25,000-square-feet in the mansion and is planning an inaugural exhibit that will feature "classic works by the artists with whom Skarstedt has been working for over 20 years," according to ArtNews. Artists featured at the gallery include Robert Mapplethorpe, Andy Warhol, Martin Kippenberger and Carroll Dunham, according to the gallery's website.

Skarstedt Gallery's new space will be much larger than its existing location on East 79th Street, which is just 5,000-square-feet, according to the gallery website.
The Wildenstein mansion has long been one of New York City's most intriguing real estate assets. The property sold for $90 million in 2018, setting records for the priciest townhouse transaction in the city's history. The Wildenstein family parted with the home for $79.5 million in 2017 after a few previous deals — one with the country of Qatar — fell through.
