B&B Bagels will be taking over the storefront that was previously occupied by the neighborhood favorite cafe and takeout spot, Veritable, until this past May, when it abruptly closed because of financial constraints, officials said.
This November would have marked Veritable's eighth anniversary.
B&B Bagels is the fifth new bagel entry to the neighborhood over the past few months.
In early May, the Brooklyn-based bagel shop Bagel Point opened at 787 Lexington Avenue, between East 61st and 62nd streets. The shop's standout bagel creation is the Cragel — a unique blend of half-bagel and half-croissant available in plain, cinnamon, coconut, spinach, turkey bacon with cheddar and za'atar varieties.
Later that month, Modern Bread & Bagel, known for its inventive gluten-free twists on traditional brunch staples and authentic New York-style bagels, opened its newest shop located at 1427 Third Avenue, between 80th and 81st Streets.
In June, the viral pre-order bagel spot, Pop Up Bagels, debuted its third Manhattan location at 1457 Third Avenue, on the corner of 82nd Street.
Most recently, Tompkins Square Bagels, a popular East Village bagel joint, has announced an official timeline to open its fourth location at 1159 Third Avenue in Lenox Hill, between East 67th and 68th streets.
An updated statement from the bagel shop indicates they are now planning to open in the fall, although a specific date has not been provided.
