NEW YORK, NY — School ranking site Niche.com released its updated list of the best private schools in New York State. Unsurprisingly, many New York City schools earned high marks on the list.

New York City's elite private schools are known for promoting intense academic study among their students while offering many opportunities for achievement in sports and creative arts. With that reputation comes great cost. The best private schools in the city often have applications (and tuition) that resemble most four-year universities, so if you're trying to get your kid into one you better be prepared.

Niche's list of the best private schools for 2020 can help parents make smart decisions when deciding whether private school is best for their kids.

The rankings are "based on rigorous analysis of key statistics and millions of reviews from students and parents," according to Niche. Ranking factors include SAT/ACT scores, the quality of colleges that students consider, student-teacher ratio, private school ratings, and more. Niche both pulls data from entities such as the U.S. Department of Education, and colleges and universities and also relies on users to self-report information such as test scores.

Niche's full methodology is described here. Niche gives the most weight to SAT and ACT scores of students, the rank of colleges that students matriculate to and the percentage of students at each school who go on to four-year colleges.
