UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Alex Bores is the apparent victor in the Upper East Side's hard-fought Democratic primary race for an open State Assembly seat, as his next-closest rival conceded.

Adam Roberts tweeted Wednesday afternoon that he had conceded to Bores Tuesday night. The latest results from the state board of elections showed Bores leading the 73rd District primary with 26.51 percent of the vote, followed by Roberts at 22.59 percent — with virtually all votes counted.

"This was an extremely close and hard fought campaign, and I am proud of what we accomplished in such a short time period," Roberts said.

Russell Squire was in third place at 18.45 percent, just three votes ahead of Kellie Leeson at 18.43 percent. Neither Squire nor Leeson had made any public statements by Wednesday afternoon.

Bores, a 31-year-old data engineer, is now set to advance to November's general election, where he will be heavily favored against Republican David Casavis.

"I am honored that the voters of the East Side have chosen me to be their Democratic nominee for Assembly. This win belongs to our broad community of support and our incredible team," Bores said in a tweet on Wednesday.

"Now the real work begins: Delivering results for New Yorkers."

In his Patch profile, Bores said his top priorities included public safety, education and reproductive rights, touting his experience building computer software for the Department of Justice and helping to streamline relief programs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The newly-redrawn 73rd District runs mostly west of Third Avenue below East 94th Street, also including a chunk of Midtown East. It has been represented since 2011 by Dan Quart, who is retiring.

The race for a rare open seat was competitive and bitterly fought, marked by heavy fundraising, vitriolic mailers, and a dispute over elevator accessibility.

Ben Kallos, who left office last year as the City Council member for much of the Upper East Side, flirted with a run for the 73rd District seat early on, but ultimately decided against it.

In the neighboring 76th Assembly District, covering Yorkville and Roosevelt Island, incumbent Rebecca Seawright easily defeated challenger Patrick Bobilin in Tuesday's primary.
