Busy Upper East Side Subway Station To Get Deep Clean, Repairs
The Lexington Av/59 st N/R/W station is one of the 14 stations to be "Re-NEW-Vated," the MTA announced Wednesday.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A 104-year-old subway platform on the Upper East Side will soon sparkle, according to the MTA.
The Lexington Av/59 st N/R/W station will receive aesthetic and functional upgrades — in addition to 13 other stations — as part of the MTA's Station "Re-NEW-Vation" Program, a program which the agency uses smart, efficient timing to deliver results.
By utilizing already planned weekend service outages to perform upgrades, repairs and a deep clean, the agency says they can deliver "enhancement" within a 55-hour window.

"Providing faster, cleaner, and safer service to improve customer satisfaction is our North Star at New York City Transit, and the expansion of the Station Re-NEW-Vation Program delivers on that mission," said NYC Transit president Richard Davey. "Customers told us that they want cleaner, more inviting station environments, and we listened."
Davey said the 14 stations announced yesterday will see the agency make good on their promise to "re-NEW-vate" 50 stations by the end of the year.

The program first started last summer, focusing on the B and D line in the Bronx, where the agency said they performed deep cleans and renovations inside the stations. Now, NYC Transit says the program is integrated into planned station outages.
