Doctor Behind Illegal UES Plastic Surgery Clinic Gets Probation
The doctor helped an unlicensed plastic surgeon set up a clinic and perform more than 60 illegal operations on the Upper East Side.
UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A physician was sentenced to serve three months in jail and five years probation for his role in setting up an illegal plastic surgery clinic on the Upper East Side, according to state prosecutors.
Nicholas Sewell, 75, received his sentence Wednesday after previously pleading guilty to the unauthorized practice of a profession and a scheme to defraud patients, a spokesperson for the New York Attorney General said. Sewell's sentence of three months in jail equates with time already served since his indictment.
The physician helped Brad Jacobs establish the Allure Plastic Surgery Clinic on East 61st Street and perform illegal surgeries on more than 60 patients from 2012 until 2016, according to state prosecutors. Jacobs' surrendered his license in 2007 amid 29 charges of medical misconduct.

Both doctors told patients at Allure that Jacobs was a licensed plastic surgeon and charged between $8,000 and $10,000 for surgical procedures and other treatments such as injections.
The doctors set up a scheme to conceal the fact that Jacobs was practicing without a license by directing patients to pay an account in the name of one of Sewell's family members. Sewell himself controlled the account and would then transfer it to an account in the name of one of Jacob's family members, which was controlled by the surgeon.

Sewell was also responsible for securing Allure Plastic Surgery Clinic's office and operating space, state prosecutors said.
Jacobs was sentenced in February to serve three to nine years in prison. Both doctors were facing 25 years in prison when they were indicted in 2018.
