Central Park Erupts In Flames, Arson Possible: FDNY, Reports

CENTRAL PARK, NY — Flames erupted in Central Park Monday morning, just weeks after a suspected arsonist set several blazes in Manhattan's backyard, and the FDNY says they too may have been intentionally set, according to officials and reports.

Firefighters battled several bushfires in the Rambles near East 72nd to 74th streets about 2:35 a.m, the FDNY and NYPD said.

An FDNY spokesperson told the New York Post the fires may have been set, but that it wasn't clear if it was the same person who started the flames at the beginning of March.

The FDNY did not respond to multiple requests for confirmation from Patch.

The Ramble is one of Central Park's three woodland landscapes and has bridges, streams, rock outcroppings, and dense plantings.

It has intentionally winding paths aimed at transporting you from the city center into a wildlife environment.

Monday's blazes came about two weeks after the March 8 fires that filled the surrounding sky with smoke.

Authorities continue to look for a man who is suspected of starting those fires near West 107th Street and Central Park West.
