Fire Breaks Out In Yorkville Tenement Building: FDNY
East 83rd Street was blocked off for a fire in a 20-unit building on Monday afternoon.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A Yorkville tenement building caught fire Monday afternoon, according to FDNY officials.
The FDNY placed an "all-hands" call, a sign that the fire required all available smoke-eaters to respond, for a fire at 214 East 83rd St., between Second and Third avenues, about 2:30 p.m., officials said.
On the scene, a FDNY official told Patch that the fire began on the fourth floor and spread to the fifth.

The official added that there were no injuries and the cause was still under investigation.

One resident reported that they saw flames from the blaze, but declined to provide any other details.
By just before 3 p.m., the department declared the fire under control.
According to real estate sites, the five-story building contains 20 units and was built in 1910. A recent one-bedroom with a loft space was listed for $2,800 a month.
