UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A section of the FDR Drive that runs alongside the Upper East Side flooded Tuesday afternoon as a rain storm pummeled New York City, forcing officials to shut the road down.

The highway, which stretches the length of the east side of Manhattan, was closed to northbound traffic between East 61st to East 96th streets around 4:15 p.m., according to the city Office of Emergency Management.

The Office of Emergency Management warned drivers to search for alternate routes. Unfortunately for drivers leaving the city Tuesday, the FDR is often the easiest way to access the east side's bridges and tunnels.
