French Invasion Continues: La Sandwicherie To Open UES Outpost

The hit French sandwich spot has only had their first Greenpoint storefront open since September.

While the exact opening date isn't nailed down yet, East 85th Street will soon get a new sandwich delight sometime this summer.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A hit Brooklyn-based French sandwich spot is looking to open their second location on East 85th Street imminently, according to their social media.

La Sandwicherie only opened their first storefront last fall in Greenpoint, just a year after existing as a pandemic-era food truck, but their spot has earned rave reviews from sandwich fans all over the city.

The shop offers a smattering of all things French: pastry, sandwiches, panini, crepes, French groceries and, what the owners call the "best" Italian coffee in the world.

Their second location will soon open on East 85th Street between Second and Third avenues later this summer.

As the name implies though, the main focus of La Sandwicherie is: sandwiches.

Offered on fresh, organic baguettes, the offerings include classics, like "Le Parisien," with French ham, brie cheese, tomatoes, arugula and mayo, and a prosciutto and truffle burrata. One sandwich combines a duck rillette pate complimented with cornichons, arugula and mayo.

La Sandwicherie's ham sandwich is so good that it's arguably the reason the team made it from food truck to storefront.

Last year, when the La Sandwicherie truck owners, longtime restaurateur Laurent d’Antonio and his favorite former employee Massire Diawara, were still serving up French delights from their parking spot in Williamsburg near McCarren Park, their ham and brie sandwich compelled a Greenpoint neighbor, former attorney and realtor Daron Yemini, to encourage the pair to bring their delights to a storefront — and that he would be happy to team up if they wanted an investor, according to Greenpointers.

“I felt a need for a great sandwich shop in the neighborhood," Yemini told the local news site last fall.

La Sandwicherie will be the latest in a long list of an Upper East Side French invasion, deliciously preceded by Pâtisserie Vanessa, Angelina Paris, Patisserie Chanson, Le Petit Parisien and Julien Boulangerie — now with three neighborhood locations.
