Gun-Wielding Robbers Attack Man On UES, Police Say

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Two gun-wielding robbers attacked a man on the Upper East Side early Sunday morning, an NYPD spokesman said.

A 31-year-old man was walking on East End Avenue near East 79th Street shortly after 5 a.m. when he was approached from behind by his attackers, police said. The unknown men struck him from behind and stomped on his face after the man fell to the ground, an NYPD spokesman said.

When the man was on the ground the robbers pointed a gun at him and demanded money, police said. The victim refused, and the attackers eventually fled the scene empty-handed, police said.

The victim suffered redness and swelling to his cheek and lacerations to his face and nose, an NYPD spokesman said. Medics treated the man's injuries at the scene of the attack, police said.

An NYPD investigation into the robbery is ongoing and no arrests have been made, a department spokesman said.
