UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Going to the drugstore isn't considered a glamorous experience, but the Upper East Side's newest pharmacy is billing itself as "elegant" and "hip."

Upper East Chemists, a family-run business, recently opened its doors on Third Avenue and East 80th Street, a spokeswoman for the store said in a statement. The pharmacy's space was designed by studioBIG to be a new "concept store" that's specifically tailored to the tastes of an Upper East Side clientele.

"The elegant yet hip design of the store’s interiors, branding, and custom signage helps convey the shop’s intent to deliver personalized, one-on-one service and the highest quality products to its customers," a press release reads.

Design elements such as oak millwork, "regal purple" accent walls, porcelain floor tile and custom black plexiglass signage make Upper East Chemists stand out from the standard CVS or Duane Reade. The store also offers some high-end products that can't be found in the chain stores.

"Each element of the interior design adds to the sophisticated character of the store while making it easy for customers to both locate the products or service they seek and to make new discoveries of the store’s selection of artisanal goods," a press release reads.
