John Jay Park Gets Big Upgrades
East Siders can now enjoy resurfaced tennis and basketball courts, a rebuilt central walkway, and more.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY – John Jay Park, a much-loved neighborhood recreation space between 76th and 78th Street overlooking the East River, celebrated the completion of significant upgrades earlier this week, including improved – and accessible – basketball and tennis courts, as well as a rebuilt central walkway with new benches and a drinking fountain.
Council Member Julie Menin, who represents District 5, provided $1 million for the project, funds which paid for the basketball and tennis court upgrades. Her office's contribution also supported the rebuilding of the central walkway, as well as the addition of new benches and the installation of a drinking fountain.

"John Jay Park is a true neighborhood gem, and these improvements underscore our dedication to fostering a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment for everyone in the community,” said NYC Parks Manhattan Borough Commissioner Tricia Shimamura at a ribbon cutting earlier this week.

"Thanks to the support from the Council Member and the Mayor, this recently completed work enhances accessibility, beautifies the park, and elevates the quality of life for park users.”
A $1.4 million renovation of the pool deck, completed in May, was funded by the mayor’s office.
