Kossar's Bialys UES Location Pushes Opening To Fall 2023
A new sign displaying a March 1st opening date is now incorrect, over a year after the new location was announced.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Bad news for bialy fans — the Upper East Side branch of longtime Jewish bakery Kossar's won't open their doors before the autumn.
Just recently, the bakery had replaced signage at their uptown location at York Avenue and East 75th Street, promising residents a March 1 opening date, over a year since the new location was announced.
That sign had replaced an earlier, slightly cheeky sign which read: "We're ready to roll. Just waiting on the gas."

According to the bakery, that sign will probably have to return.
A rep for the bagel & bialy mainstay told Patch that because of permits and ongoing utility work and upgrades from Con-Ed, the opening has been pushed back to the fall of this year.

The representative could not offer further details or specifics, but did confirm that the March 1 date is incorrect and that the changed opening date was a recent development.
Kossar's first announced their Upper East Side location a year ago to much fanfare and had initially declared an opening date in April or May of 2022.
But like the most enduring of New York City institutions, Kossar's plays the long game.
Since first opening over 80 years ago on the Lower East Side, Kossar's has captivated its patrons with freshly baked bagels, bialys, babkas, rugelach and black-and-white cookies.
Additionally, the bakery offers various kinds of lox, sable, a dozen different varieties of cream cheese, salad spreads and pletzels, a traditional Jewish "onion board."
