Lady Liberty Tells UES To Pick Up Dog Poop In New Ad
Give me your huddled masses, yearning to breathe free (without, you know, smelling dog poop.)
UPPER EAST SIDE — The Upper East Side has a new spokesperson in the form of Lady (Lab)erty, who is urging locals to keep its streets free from dog poop.
"Pick up after your pup," she demands. "Clean streets for all!"
The new take on the green lady comes courtesy of City Council Member Julie Menin, who announced Monday the winner of her Curb Your Dog Campaign Design Contest.

The victor is Ellen Young, 24, whose mutt-directed masterpiece will be displayed across Council District 5.
"I have always had a passion for dogs and graphic design!" said Young, originally from Cleveland. "[I] am so honored to be able to represent my community in this fun and creative way."

Young is among dozens of young Upper East Side artists who submitted proposals to improve the lot of Upper East Side plant life, noses and shoe soles.
Young's crucial message will now be displayed on local LinkNYC kiosks, in Menin's newsletter, and posted to social media.
Menin said she was inspired to launch the contest by the large number of canine cow pies her office regularly receives.
"Estimates put New York City’s dog waste production at approximately 27,000 tons annually," her press release states.
Menin added, “Congratulations to Ellen Young for her very wonderful design, as well as all of our contestants who took the time to make a poster."
