UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Upper East Siders with a craving for Levain Bakery's gigantic chocolate chip cookies will have to wait a few more days before they can grab on in their own neighborhood.

The popular bakery postponed the opening of its store on Third Avenue between East 83rd and 84th streets — which was supposed to open Wednesday — because the store is having trouble with its gas connection. A sign in the store's window with the messages "Sorry! Just a few more days... " directed Upper East Siders to follow the bakery's social media pages for the announcement of a new opening date.

"Unfortunately, we are waiting for our gas hook up. Due to the recent power outage, things are a little backed up in NYC. Our deepest apologies!" the sign reads.

Levain is known for its massive chocolate chip cookies, but it also serves other bakery staples such as muffins, scones, cakes, tarts, pastries and various freshly-baked breads. The Upper East Side location will serve up special ice cream sandwiches using miniature versions of the bakery's famous cookies and Ample Hills ice cream for a limited run.
