Man Abandoned Baby Girl On UES Subway Platform, Police Say

The girl was found unharmed on the Lexington Avenue and East 86th Street station platform.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A man is facing charges for leaving a baby girl unattended on an Upper East Side subway platform, an NYPD spokesman said.

Joshua Perez, 26, was arrested and charged with child abandonment Sunday, an NYPD spokesman said. Perez is accused of leaving a 6-month-old girl unattended in her stroller on the platform of the Lexington Avenue and East 86th Street subway station.

The man told police that he was on the platform with the girl and her mother when the two adults got into an argument, an NYPD spokesman said. After the fight, Perez and the mother went their separate ways, the spokesman said.

Perez called police to report the child missing on Sunday, an NYPD spokesman said. Perez told the cops that he fell asleep on a train and reported the child missing after waking up in Brooklyn, an NYPD spokesman said.

The 6-month-old girl was found on the subway platform unharmed, police said.
