Man Jumps To Death From UES Building In Apparent Suicide, Police Say

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A man jumped to his death from an Upper East Side apartment window Friday in an apparent suicide, police said.

The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was found in the rear courtyard of the Imperial House on East 69th Street, just off Lexington Avenue in Lenox Hill, at approximately 7:40 p.m.

The victim's mother told investigators that she was in the process of checking the apartment for her son. While doing so, she glanced out the window and saw him lying in the courtyard, officials said.

The window facing the courtyard was found open, police said.

He was suffering from “injuries indicative of falling from an elevated position,” an NYPD spokesperson said.

The man was declared dead at the scene by first responders, officials said.

The Imperial House, a 30-story building constructed in 1960 on the former site of the New York Foundling Hospital, is described by realtors as one of the premier white glove co-operatives, renowned for its fusion of elegance and exemplary service.
