A witness photo appeared to show blood covering the sidewalk on the corner of Third Avenue, just outside an entrance to the F-Q train subway station.
Ethan B. Van Buskirk, who took the photo, told Patch that police were just starting to cordon off the crime scene at around 2:05 p.m. A handful of police cars had gathered, with "a lot of confusion" in the area, he said.
Videos posted to the Citizen app showed a large police presence at the intersection of Third Avenue. The NYPD's 19th Precinct asked the public to avoid the area, saying in a tweet that a police investigation was active on the corner.
