Museum Mile Festival 2023: Free Art And Shows On The UES

Head to Fifth Avenue for free art, music, and activities at the Met, the Guggenheim, and six other museums.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — If you'd like the chance to wander the halls of some of the world's most famous museums for free, don't miss The Museum Mile Festival on Tuesday!

Between 6 and 9 p.m. Tuesday, several New York City museums will open their doors as guests can stop by to gawk at art and see shows for free.

Participating institutions include the Metropolitan Museum of Art, El Museo del Barrio, Neue Galerie, the Guggenheim Museum, Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, the Jewish Museum, the Museum of the City of New York, and the Africa Center.

No cars will be allowed on the streets during the festival— which runs on 5th Avenue from 82nd Street to 105th Street — making way for attractions such as street musicians, art activities for children, food vendors, and more.

Tuesday will be the 45th iteration of the annual event. The event returned in its recognizable form in 2022 after going remote in 2020 and 2021.
