Nazi Armband Found Inside Upper East Side Tailor Shop
A hateful Nazi swastika was hanging at an Upper East Side tailor shop earlier this week, officials said.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A disturbing Nazi symbol was found displayed on a garment at an Upper East Side tailor shop, according to officials.
On Monday, NYC Council Member Julie Menin shared a photo of the offensive attire on her social media account. The image depicted a white buttoned-down shirt with a swastika armband visibly attached to one of its sleeves.
Menin said that a constituent in her district alerted her office of the garment after seeing it hanging in line to be serviced at a local tailor shop.

"The fact that this garment was there is unbelievably offensive as it is one of the worst hate symbols," Menin added.
On Monday evening, management at Ignacio’s Tailor shop on East 60th Street told the New York Post that an employee, who didn’t understand the significance of the symbol, accepted the shirt for dry cleaning.

“It’s the first time we had this situation… they want to hurt the business,” Jorge Hernandez, a manager at Ignacio’s, told the venerable tabloid.
In a statement, Menin suggested that the individual who brought the garment in for service might have had motives other than promoting hatred.
"To be fair, it could be that this is not nefarious, as this is an item that could be used for a production such as ‘The Sound of Music,’ something were you need this outfit. But it needs to be called out. It’s very important to call out hate symbols as soon as you seen them," she added.
The council member also mentioned that the NYPD had been notified of the incident and was currently conducting an investigation.
