UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Another part of the massive improvement project at the 68th Street/Hunter College subway stop is ready for straphangers, the MTA said at a meeting Wednesday night.

A new entrance on the east side of Lexington Avenue between 68th and 69th Streets is set to open imminently, the MTA said, at the base of the landmarked Imperial House near Hunter College and several shops including Shakespeare & Co, Metro Pharmacy and Garnet Wines & Liquors.

According to Upper East Site, the MTA said that the entrance should be opening next week.

The entrance is one of several improvements as part of the $146 million upgrade currently underway at the century-old station and is the second component of the project to come online.

Like the new entrance, the completed renovation to the existing entryway on the north east corner of 68th Street and Lexington Avenue contains only stairs and turnstiles.

Next up on the MTA's punchlist for 2023 is reconstructing a vent, restoring the sidewalk on the east side of Lexington Avenue, relocating street utilities, and architectural work on the platforms as well as track work, according to the agency's presentation.

The major accessibility component of the project, a set of new elevators outside of Hunter College, is expected to be the capstone of the project and completed by the end of 2024.
