UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A Greek spot replacing a shuttered pizzeria and a trendy seafood spot on Third Avenue are among the new restaurants planning to open on the Upper East Side.

The new eateries were presented on Tuesday to Community Board 8's street life committee as their owners sought the board's approval to obtain alcohol licenses.

They come on top of at least 20 other new restaurants and bars that Patch reported on in recent months as the industry aims to bounce back from the existential threat of the pandemic.

  • This kosher restaurant opened about two weeks ago in the York Avenue storefront formerly home to Mimmo, an Italian restaurant.
  • Serving Israeli cuisine, Effy's has operated another location at the 92nd Street Y since 2013. Another location on Third Avenue has since closed.
  • Owner Shlomo Alkoby described the eatery as "a quiet, peaceful, cafe," suitable for reading a book and drinking a cup of coffee or a glass of wine.

Noglu (1260 Madison Ave., on East 90th Street)

  • A relocation rather than a new opening, this gluten-free bakery will be moving a few doors down from its current location at 1266 Madison Ave., where it has been based since 2016. Its new, corner storefront previously housed part of 90th Street Pharmacy.
  • The new shop will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., containing 26 seats indoors.

Seamore's (1278 Third Ave., near East 73rd Street)

  • This popular seafood restaurant, with five existing locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn, is moving into the storefront most recently home to the steakhouse TBar. Seamore's was described by Eater as a "millennial-friendly" seafood purveyor ahead of its 2018 opening in DUMBO.
  • Opening as a "full-service seafood restaurant," Seamore's will have the same seating layout as its predecessor, TBar, with 122 seats spread across 45 tables, plus 13 at a bar.
  • It will be open from 11-12 a.m. Sunday-Wednesday and 11-2 a.m. Thursday-Saturday, a representative said. Owners also plan to participate in the Open Restaurants program.

Unknown restaurant (808 Lexington Ave., near East 62nd Street)

  • Another restaurant apparently plans to open up at 808 Lexington Ave., the storefront previously home to the Mediterranean spot Fig & Olive, but the listed representative, Terrence Lowenberg, did not show up to the community board meeting to present his business.

Yasouvlaki (1568 Third Ave., on East 88th Street)

  • This Greek restaurant will move into the corner storefront that previously housed Roma Pizza. Its business registration, "1568 Gyro LLC," provides some clues as to what will be on the menu.
  • It will be run by the owners of Bocado, the American bakery-cafe on Lexington Avenue and East 87th Street.
  • Yasouvlaki will seat 28 people at 14 tables, open daily from 11-12 a.m. Sunday-Thursday and 11-1 a.m. Friday-Saturday.

It was unclear when any of the upcoming businesses planned to open.

Other new restaurants planned on the Upper East Side include a sushi bar on Madison Avenue near East 92nd Street, a barbecue joint replacing the former Rathbone's bar on Second Avenue and a bar in the former Two Little Red Hens Bakery space.
