Nordstrom's New Upper East Side Store Sells Nothing
"Nordstrom Local" doesn't offer products, but instead acts as a service center for alterations, returns and online pickup.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Retail giant Nordstrom opened its new concept "Nordstrom Local" Thursday on the Upper East Side to offer convenient services to local shoppers.
The new store doesn't resemble the typical Nordstrom. There's practically no products for sale at the 1273 Third Ave. store, but instead a whole host services such as quick alterations, product repairs, online order pickup and returns will be offered. Stylists will also be on-hand at the store for consultations.
"Nordstrom Local is about giving customers more access to brands and styles they love, to try on or take home in a fast and convenient way. We hope to make shopping easy by being closer to where our customers live and work," Jamie Nordstrom, president of Nordstrom stores, said in a statement.

Nordstrom will curate its services offered at Nordstrom Local locations based on the needs of local shoppers. The Upper East Side location plans to offer stroller cleanings through a company called Tot Squad.
The new Upper East Side Nordstrom Local will also serve as a compliment to a planned 320,000-square-foot department store opening in October near Columbus Circle. Nordstrom launched the service center concept in Los Angeles in 2017 and is currently expanding throughout the United States. Another Nordstrom Local is set to open in the West Village at the end of September.
