Electric Zoo Cops Stole Pricey Champagne During NYC Festival: DA
Three on-duty NYPD detectives stole $2,900 worth of champagne during the Randall's Island festival, city prosecutors contend.

NEW YORK CITY — A trio of NYPD detectives all played roles in the heist of $2,900 worth of champagne from VIPs at Electric Zoo Music Festival, prosecutors said.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg uncorked indictments against the detectives Monday.
The detectives — Jonathan Gonzalez, 33, Wojciech Czech, 44 and Warren Golden, 31 — were on duty during the Electric Zoo Festival on Randall's Island in September when the theft popped off, authorities said.

“In addition to the alleged theft that occurred, none of these Officers stepped up and stopped this activity," Bragg said in a statement.
The heist unfolded after Electric Zoo concertgoers in the VIP area ordered Ace of Spades champagne Sept. 3 about 7 p.m., prosecutors said.

When the VIPs stepped away, Gonzalez and Czech grabbed two bottles valued at $2,900 and stuffed them in a backpack, authorities said. Golden watched the theft, but did nothing, prosecutors said.
A festival goer also saw the theft and a security guard stopped the detectives as they tried to leave, authorities said. Gonzalez identified himself as a police officer, but two festival attendees from the VIP area, who had chased the detectives, confronted them, prosecutors said.
The security guard took the bottles out of Gonzalez's bag and returned them to the festival goers, prosecutors said. The security guard's employee then told the NYPD, authorities said.
Gonzalez and Czech both face charges of grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. Golden faces a charge of official misconduct, as does Gonzalez.
