UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — An NYPD officer was arrested and charged with drunk driving on an Upper East Side street early Tuesday morning, police said.

Officer Darwin Mejia, 38, was charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired, officials said.

An NYPD spokesperson said that the off-duty officer was pulled over at around 2:45 a.m. within the confines of the 19th precinct.

His charge of aggravated DWI means that the police had evidence to show his blood-alcohol content level was at .18 or higher.

The charge carries a maximum jail time of up to a year.

According to NYPD records, Mejia has been on the force since 2011 and has made 115 total arrests.
