Person Seriously Injured In Upper East Side Fire, FDNY Says

The fire broke out just before noon Tuesday in a high-rise on Third Avenue and East 92nd Street.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A person was rushed to the hospital Tuesday in serious condition after a fire broke out in an Upper East Side high-rise apartment complex, an FDNY spokesman said.

The fire broke out shortly before 12 p.m. in a 31st-floor apartment of a high-rise in the Ruppert Yorkville Tower complex on Third Avenue and East 92nd Street, an FDNY spokesman said. Nearly 80 firefighters responded to the scene and had the fire under control just after 1 p.m., the spokesman said.

Medics rushed one person suffering life-threatening injuries to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, fire officials said.

Windows of the 31st-floor unit were burned out during the fire, according to videos taken by witnesses at the scene. The city fire marshal will investigate the cause of the fire, an FDNY spokesman said.
