Man Killed After Shooting At Police On The UES: NYPD
The man brandished a gun at several people in East Harlem and the Upper East Side before officers shot him, police said.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Police killed a man on Thursday night after he shot at officers on the Upper East Side, New York City Police Department officials told Patch.
According to the NYPD, officers were responding to a 911 report of a man with a gun at East 107th Street and Madison Avenue around 7:03 p.m., and they were searching for the man in the area.
Police said in a press conference Thursday night that the man had brandished a gun at multiple people on Madison Avenue — first pointing it at an elevator rider, then threatening a deli worker and declaring he planned to "shoot up" Mount Sinai hospital before entering the hospital and struggling with an off-duty officer who was serving as security for the hospital.

Officers found the armed man at East 96th Street and Madison Avenue at around 7:30 p.m., and the man immediately started firing at the police, NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera said.
The gunfire erupted right near a bus stop, where people were getting off the bus during their evening commutes, Rivera said.

The responding officers shot and hit the man, and medics rushed the man to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead, Rivera said.
"This situation could have turned out differently," Rivera said. "An individual walked into multiple locations with a gun, menaced multiple people with that gun, and then shot at our officers in the middle of a busy sidewalk with civilians in close proximity. Every day, our officers put on their uniforms and they encounter dangerous situations across this city."
