Popular Coffee Shop Opening Upper East Side Location: Reports
Peaky Baristas, a European-inspired, retro-style cafe with two West Side locations, will soon open its first Upper East Side coffee shop.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A European-style coffee shop with a retro twist is set to open on the Upper East Side, marking a pilgrimage across Central Park, according to reports.
Peaky Barista has signed a lease for the storefront at 1220 Lexington Ave., between East 82nd and 83rd streets, Traded NY first reported on Monday. The shop has two existing locations on the Upper West Side, on Broadway and West 102nd Street and Columbus Avenue near West 93rd Street.
Describing itself as a "family-owned, cozy and hip coffee shop with a European vibe," Peaky Barista was founded by Dragan Bulic, a hospitality industry veteran who dreamed for years about opening his own shop after immigrating to the U.S. from Serbia in 2008, according to its website.

Peaky Barista — whose name resembles the title of Netflix's gangster period drama — combines Bulic's "passion for coffee, good service, and the 1920’s era," embodied by the newsboy caps sported by its employees.
The West Side shops serve Stumptown coffee, as well as homemade pastries inspired by Balkan cuisine — including savory burek and sweet baklava. Peaky Barista's mantra, as written on the shop's website, is simple: "Coffee is always a good idea."

Its decor is also distinctive, with both shops featuring exposed brick, abundant plants and a "signature yellow couch."
The 1,050-square-foot space on Lexington Avenue was formerly home to Vogue nail salon. Peaky Barista is aiming to open there by October, according to Upper East Site, which also reported on the news.
