Stranger Rapes 19-Year-Old Woman On UES, Police Say

The woman was raped by a man who followed her after she exited the subway at 96th Street.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — The NYPD is trying to identify a man who raped a woman on an Upper East Side street, police said.

A 19-year-old woman exited the subway at East 96th Street on Sunday around 7:30 p.m. when an unknown man approached her and engaged her in conversation, police said. As the woman continued to walk, the man followed her and raped her near East 95th Street and Third Avenue, police said.

The woman was treated for injuries at a nearby hospital and was in stable condition, said police.

Police released a photo of the suspect (seen above) taken by a subway surveillance camera before the attack.
