Robbery At Gunpoint On Queensboro Bridge: Police

Two men robbed a woman of a bag and some jewelry while she was walking across the bridge toward Manhattan, police said.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY – A 59-year-old woman was walking across the Queensboro Bridge at about 8 p.m. on Monday evening, police said, when two men approached her from behind, brandished a firearm, and demanded her property.

The victim handed over her bag and some jewelry, or an estimated $1,300 worth of personal possessions, according to police.

The two assailants fled in an unknown direction, police said, and no description of the men was available.

The victim, who was headed toward Manhattan, where the bridge deposits pedestrians and cyclists on 59th Street, was not injured in the robbery, police said.

No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing.

The Queensboro Bridge is notorious for its cramped pedestrian and cyclist pathway on the bridge’s north side. An expansion – or improvement – has been in the works for years, but progress has been slow.
