NYC IN PHOTOS: Big Rain Hits The Big Apple

At least several inches of rain have already fallen in a historic rainstorm, with up to eight more inches expected by Saturday morning.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — New York City was pelted with at least seven inches of rain by Friday afternoon, causing havoc over all aspects of city life.

Cars were stranded, rivers flowed through subways shutting down huge parts of the system (stranding one City Council member), sewage gurgled, libraries closed, a school was evacuatedhighways and even a terminal at LaGuardia airport flooded, and New York City wondered where it might find Mayor Eric Adams.

Anyone who had to leave the house today was guaranteed to get soaked.

NYC Flood Watch: Adams AWOL As NYC Floods And Hochul Acts

Gov. Kathy Hochul issued a state of emergency for the city while Mayor Eric Adams remained out of sight. Adams ended his vanishing act shortly before noon, when he finally appeared — more than 30 minutes late — on a video briefing.

NYC Airport Floods: Terminal Closes, Delays,Cancellations

Hundreds of flights were delayed at LaGuardia and John F. Kennedy airports in Queens Friday as roads flooded and one terminal closed.

According to Gov. Hochul, LaGuardia's Terminal 1 shuttered because of flooding in a fuel field.

UWS Rep Gale Brewer Trapped For Hours On 2 Train Stalled By Floods

City Council Member Gale Brewer was on her way to City Hall for a 4 p.m. bill signing with Mayor Eric Adams that has since been cancelled when she found herself trapped on a 2 train.

“I have been on #2 train at W 96 St station for hrs & I am not alone,” Brewer wrote. “I have plenty of work & lots of constituents 2 talk 2."

State Of Emergency Declared In Hoboken, And Public School Update

New York City wasn't the only coastal town blasted by rain Friday. As streets in low-lying areas of Hoboken flooded Friday morning, the city declared a state of emergency and the public schools superintendent canceled after-school activities.
