Sutton Place Fire Hurts 2, FDNY Says

SUTTON PLACE, NY — Two people were hospitalized Tuesday morning after a fire broke out in a Sutton Place high-rise building, an FDNY spokesman said.

The fire broke out shortly after 8:30 a.m. on the 28th floor of 400 E 56th St., an apartment tower called Plaza 400 located between First Avenue and Sutton Place, an FDNY spokesman said. Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control about 9:45, fire officials said.

Two people were hurt during the fire, an FDNY spokesman said. Medics transported one of the victims to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and the other to NYU Langone, fire officials said. The spokesman could not confirm the condition of the victims.

The city Office of Emergency Management warned people to expect smoke and traffic delays near the area of the fire. People living near the building should close their windows until smoke clears, emergency management officials said.
