Tal Bagels Catches Fire On Upper East Side, Authorities Say

A fire broke out early Friday inside the beloved Tal Bagels shop in Yorkville, according to authorities.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A fire broke out early Friday inside the beloved Tal Bagels shop in Yorkville, according to authorities.

The fire at the rear of Tal's location on East 86th Street between First and Second avenues began just before 3:30 a.m., according to an FDNY spokesperson and an agency alert.

It was brought under control in a little under half an hour, the FDNY said.

There were no injuries, authorities said.

Still, videos posted to the Citizen app show a long procession of firetrucks along East 86th Street as authorities battled the blaze, including two with ladders outstretched to the top of the five-story building that houses the bagel shop.

The cause of the fire and the severity of damage to the shop were not immediately clear Friday morning, and a phone call to Tal Bagels was not answered.
