Teen ID’d In Fatal Upper East Side Collision: NYPD

Juan Vadel, 19, was riding a scooter around the Upper East Side earlier this month when he collided with an unlicensed Volvo driver. 

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Authorities have identified the scooter-mounted 19-year-old who was killed in a collision with an unlicensed driver on the Upper East Side earlier this month.

Juan Vadel, from Flushing, was riding his gas-powered scooter south on Second Avenue just before midnight on July 14 when he collided with a Volvo SUV traveling eastbound on East 79th Street, according to police.

The crash ejected Vadel from the scooter, causing him to slam into the ground on the side of the road, police said.

Medics rushed him to New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center for treatment, but he couldn’t be saved.

The 26-year-old driver, Shraga Orgad, who was driving without a license, was also treated for minor injuries and listed in stable condition, according to police.

After being discharged from the hospital, Orgad was subsequently arrested and charged with driving without a license.

The NYPD's Highway Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the crash, police said.
