UES High-Rise Fire Rages Inside Madison Avenue Building: FDNY
The sixth-floor fire at East 88th Street and Madison brought nearly 80 smoke eaters to the ritzy corner on Saturday evening.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A blaze in a ritzy 15-story Carnegie Hill building brought nearly 80 firefighters to Madison Avenue Saturday evening, according to FDNY officials.
At just before 8 p.m. on Saturday, FDNY received a call for a blaze on the sixth floor of a large apartment building at 47 East 88th Street, officials said.
About 40 minutes later, the blaze was brought under control by the 78 responding smoke eaters, according to fire officials, and no injuries were reported.

Pictures show two ladder trucks responding to the blaze, where flames reportedly shot out of the windows and the responding firefighters were forced to smash windows to release smoke, according to Upper East Site, who first reported the fire.

City records state that the 1930's-era co-op building is home to 60 apartments.

A top floor unit is currently on the market for over $2.4 million, according to StreetEasy.
The website shows that just this past November, a three-bedroom unit on the same floor where the fire broke out sold for over $4.3 million. The luxurious listing advertised expansive views over Madison Avenue, as well as a wood-burning fireplace.
