Free Concert, 'Night Out' Event Coming To UES Parks This Week

A "Night Out" at John Jay Park will be followed the next day with a free, outdoor concert at Carl Schurz Park. Here's details on each.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Two Upper East Side parks are hosting free, music-filled events this week: the first courtesy of the NYPD, and the second via the Manhattan Borough President's office.

First, Tuesday evening, will be the "National Night Out," organized by the Upper East Side's 19th Precinct.

The annual event, which aims to improve police-community relations and deter crime, will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at John Jay Park — one of dozens of events across the city. This year marks a big return for the Night Out, which went on a pandemic hiatus last year.

The 19th Precinct's event (at East 77th Street and Cherokee Place) will feature music, food, free giveaways, raffles, arts and crafts and "entertainment to the whole family," according to the precinct. The first 200 people to arrive will get an "extra special treat," organizers say.

Then, at 6 p.m. Wednesday, comes "Music in the Park," an evening concert at Carl Schurz Park organized by Borough President Gale Brewer.

There are two local performers on tap: Groovalaya, who will play "a mix of jump swing, rock, and R&B," followed by Vy Higginson's Sing Harlem Choir.

Attendees should walk to the East 86th Street and East End Avenue entrance to Carl Schurz. Refreshments will be served.
