UES Restaurant Raises Money For Manager Hurt In Car Crash
A manager at Mansion Restaurant on York Avenue was critically injured in a car crash on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — An Upper East Side restaurant is raising money for an employee's medical costs after the manager was critically injured in a car crash during the New Year's weekend.
The owner of Mansion Restaurant on York Avenue and East 86th Street created a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for injured general manager John Drakopoulos, who has worked at the eatery for 15 years. Drakopoulos has been in critical condition since a Dec. 30 car crash on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, according to the fund.
"With limited health coverage and mounting expenses both John and his family will need all the support possible. Johns recovery is uncertain and will take many months of procedures and therapy," Mansion Restaurant owner John Philips wrote on the campaign page.

The restaurant manager will need surgery to repair a skull fracture and other severe injuries suffered during the crash, according to the fund. Photos attached to the fund's page displayed the wrecked state of Drakopoulos' vehicle following the crash. Most of the damage to the vehicle is concentrated near the driver's seat.
The fund has raised more than $27,000 in less than a week, according to the fund. The money will go directly to Drakopoulos' wife Magdalena and their 5-year-old son to "provide her with the ability to maintain some quality of life as well as provide for their child as John fights to recover," according to the fund's page.
