UES Target Holding Hiring Fairs For Late Summer Opening

The "small format" store on Third Avenue and East 69th Street is expecting to hire a team of 80 people.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — The new Upper East Side Target is planning to hold two hiring fairs this month in anticipation of a late summer opening, company officials announced Wednesday.

Target's "small format" store on Third Avenue and East 69th Street will employ a team of around 80 employees, company officials said. The hiring events will take place on June 14 and June 18 at Hunter College on Lexington Avenue and East 68th Street.

An exact opening date for the store has not yet been announced.

"Our Target team brings an easy and convenient shopping experience to life – and we’re building a talented team of 80 new team members to help us meet the on-the-go needs of guests on the Upper East Side. At Target, we really value the people who help us serve the local community and we look forward to providing them meaningful opportunities to build and develop valuable career skills," Anthony Rodriguez, a Target store director, said in a statement.

Target first announced its plan to open a store in a 22,600-square-foot space on the ground floor of The Fairfax, an apartment building, in April 2018. Target secured a lease with with real estate company TF Cornerstone for the new location and the store will be the seventh Target to open in New York City, company officials said.

Target plans to open 130 "small format" stores nationwide by the end of 2019. These urban focused stores differ from larger Target department stores by offering a selection of items curated to meet the needs of its local area. Target plans to open stores in Staten Island and Astoria in addition to its new Upper East Side location, the company announced Tuesday.
