Upper East Side Fire: 6 Injured During 4-Alarm Blaze
A fire at a building on the Upper East Side has caused six minor injuries, according to a fire department spokesman.
UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A fire at a building on the Upper East Side injured six people on Wednesday morning before firefighters got the blaze under control, according to New York City's fire department. The blaze is under control as of 1:02 p.m., a spokeswoman for the fire department told Patch. The spokeswoman said there were six people receiving treatment after the fire, and that all of them had sustained minor injuries.
The blaze initially classified as a four-alarm fire. It was called in after 9 a.m. on Wednesday at 1594 Second Ave., between 82nd and 83rd streets. The structure is a mixed-use building with apartments and retail space which includes the Italian eatery Firenze Ristorante, according to NBC New York. The news channel also reported that Second Avenue was closed from 81st through 86th streets while the fire department was on scene.
