Upper East Side Told To Conserve Power Amid Repairs

Upper East Siders were asked to avoid using appliances Thursday afternoon while Con Edison carried out repairs in the wake of the storm.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Thousands of Upper East Side residents had their voltage reduced on Thursday and were asked to avoid using electricity while utilities made repairs following Wednesday's devastating rainstorm.

Con Edison said Thursday afternoon that 78,200 customers on the Upper East Side and East Harlem had their voltage reduced by 5 percent while the company repaired equipment damaged during the floods that swept the city.

The company asked residents to avoid using energy-intensive appliances such as microwaves, washers and dryers, and to limit the use of air conditioners, while the repairs were being done.
